Frequently asked questions
- Yes, plus DC. We auto-detect your state (and city) from the lease on upload for text-based files. Double check it before submitting. The analysis flags clauses against local norms for that jurisdiction. City is optional, but helpful if you live in a major metropolitan area where local laws differ from the state's (e.g. New York City, Los Angeles, etc.).
- No. LeaseReviewed gives you a plain-English explanation of your lease so you can understand what you're signing. It's an information tool, not a substitute for an attorney.
- It's a one-time payment per lease. No account, no subscription, no recurring charges.
- Uploaded text is pre-checked before payment (most non-leases never reach checkout). For scanned documents we can't pre-check, so if your upload turns out not to be a US residential lease, you'll get a free re-upload or a full refund. Technical failures on our end refund automatically.
- No. Your document is processed in memory to generate the report and then deleted when you close this tab. Nothing is written to a database. This is by design to protect your information, but that means you need to download your report to access it later. We have no way of retrieving it.
- Each section is labeled to answer "is this normal lease language?" STANDARD means the clause is typical for leases in your area. UNUSUAL means it stands out from the norm. We'll tell you why and what to watch for. UNCERTAIN means the AI couldn't confidently classify it either way, and we'd rather flag that than guess. We'll also flag AMBIGUOUS language when the wording is vague or undefined, along with an explanation.
- Each section gets a landlord-to-tenant score showing whose interests a clause tends to serve. We also calculate an overall average score for the entire lease. A clause can be completely standard language for your area and still lean heavily landlord-favored. The badge and the score are two separate pieces of information that will help give you the full picture.
- Yes. Your lease is analyzed using Claude, Anthropic's AI model. We've designed it to be accurate and jurisdiction-aware, but like any AI it can misread ambiguous language or miss nuances a human attorney would catch. Treat it as a thorough first read, not a final word. If something looks serious, consult an attorney. Per Anthropic's commercial terms, your inputs are never used to train their models.
